That was a heck of a weekend for Sixers fans

Join the @SixersDreamTeam and @flightsquad76 from 12-1PM at Love Park for a @tastybakingco giveaway!

It was a big weekend for Philly sports fans; Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies were all in action and playing simultaneously at times. I had little time to reflect after attending the Sixers playoff games on Friday and Sunday. I did manage to  squeeze in a little Cinco De Mayo celebration on Saturday.

It’s early for the Phillies. Nobody is jumping off a bridge because they went 1-2 versus the NATs over the week-end. But the Flyers is a different story. At the start of last week there was talk (just talk) of both the Sixers and the Flyers making it to their respective conference finals. Now we’re talking about the Sixers post season continuing longer than the Flyers. What a difference a week makes.

That’s why sports is not played out on paper. Sh*t happens … people get hurt, penalties (rightly/wrongly) get called, mistakes happens, people step up. All of these things happens to Philly sports teams. It’s why we watch. It’s why I wondered done to the WTF despite the haters who where still not convinced the Sixers could hold a 3-1 lead on the Bulls this morning.

… despite the injuries … despite the convincing win in Game 2 … despite the incredibly exciting slugfest Friday nite … there were still haters out there that were convinced the Bulls would be returning to the United Center Tuesday with the series tied.

What’s up with that?

Right now, you don’t watch the Sixers because they are a contender for the NBA title. You watch them to see them make the next steps. To see is them grow. To see if they can win a slugfest and comeback from a fourth quarter deficit. To see BOSS games by Jrue Holiday with the step 3 pointer to gut an opponent. To see the kid ET grow into the role of the GUY. And he was that GUY this week-end. Turner was the  GUY putting up a lot of shots, grab boards and play tenacious D.

And I guess you watch to figure out what the heck is going on with Spencer Hawes. He was Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jeykle and then Superman on Friday. Then clearly amped on Sunday. He was playing at a different speed than everyone else. He was makin’ hilite reel passes that no one was ready for, but still had the sweet stroke going.    Heck he dunked the ball a few times instead of putting it up soft as he is often criticized for. Is he a hero or a head case? Would you sign ‘em again?

Heck, I will be watching Tuesday nite to see yet another growth spurt. Can this Sixers squad win the closeout game? Can they be killa?

How ya like me now?

How ya like me now Sixer nation. It’s been a strange season in many ways. Instead of the rollercoaster ride we’ve seen in recent years, this season was one meteoric rise and one huge fall. The Sixers fan base had to reach hard to get on the bandwagon when it was rising quickly in January. And there were certainly a few ankles broken in March during the skid. But yeah, that a fans prerogative. Everyone from the ownership, the coach, stars player and the water boy share in the praise and the blame .. okay, maybe the water boy doesn’t get much praise.

But I guess it’s the result of this compacted season and the grueling schedule. And it was just as tuff on the nation as the team. Basketball fatigue has certainly set in. Mix in a little Phillies and a little Flyers playoff drama and you can see the attention span of the Philly fan base wonder. Some didn’t even notice the Sixers impressive road finish. Or the melodrama that was the battle to not finish in the 7th playoff spot.

The poor performance on Friday nite against the Bulls had all the experts certain the Sixers where done in the first round. It was just a matter of how many games. And this was in spite of the injury to D. Rose. The TnT clown show was still talking sweep  (I know the TnT broadcast is a waste of any real pro ball fan’s time). Sixer nation felt a little better after the Rose injury. I hate to see anyone go down, but it’s part of the game. There was cautious optimism going in the last nites game.

Andre @mindofai9 gets in his zone before tip-off...

I was nervous as hell. I think all the negativity was creepin in. This had to be the game for the Sixers. A lose would just lead to more pilin’ on the dung heap. No, the Sixers needed to step on the hearts and minds in the United Center. They Sixers had to be killa.

From the start I could see that were ready to handle the storm. The Bulls came out with a flood of emotion as expected. But the play of Turner and Holiday held serve. If it were not for that strange stretch at the end of the half where John Lucas III and Noah where channeling Michael Jordon (I don’t know how else to explain it), the Sixers looked good.  The Sixers were down by eight at the half and the Bulls had scored on an amazing number of jumpers from guys not named Hamilton, Deng or Korver. This trend could not continue.

And it did not. The Bulls fell to earth in the 3rd and  the Sixers were .. well they were killa. Outscoring the Bulls 36-14 … killa.

Holiday was amazing. 26 Points, 6 assists and the really amazing part … 0 turnovers. Turner was equally impressive. He was constantly putting pressure on their defense. Turner was the guy that came down the floor and scored to stop any momentum the Bulls mounted. Turner was the guy that scored to pile on the points when the Sixers where streaking. Turner silenced the boo birds at the United Center, zipped their lips and sent ‘em home.  Killa

Sweet win (there will be no asterisk next to it in the win column)

The stuff of legends, chaos and controversy

Seven days ago, we were still basking in the glow of Wilt Chamberlain nostalgia. It was fun. Give the Sixers management credit. They did a bang up job with the whole thing.

But on Sunday reality crept back into my conciseness. I had lost focus of the 5 game loosing streak. There was no wonder as to why we had not won back to back games in a month. I started to over simplify the causes for the Sixers anemic offense. Spencer Hawes’s injury? It could not be that simple could it? But I have no time to discern the answer. The Bulls are in town and the Sixers are on national TV again. We gotta show better than the last time … you remember … the collapse against the Mavs.

The Bulls game was actually very entertaining the final result not with standing. That Rose guy, He’s pretty good. The National broadcasters repeatedly hawked on the Sixers shortcomings … the rebounding, the free throw disparity, etc. Just short of saying they will never be any better without a superstar. Hmm, maybe that said the too. Rose scores 35 as Bulls hold off 76ers 96-91.

Something had to change. I was surprised to see it in Milwaukee. I was under the impression that Coach Collins would have at least 1 practice with a new line-up before  making a change. Against the Bucks the change reeked of desperation. The defense was not in synch, turnovers ensued. I’m sorry but there is no excuse for getting used by the likes of Drew Gooden and the rudderless Bucks. Bogut is out for an extended time once again and that train is going nowhere. They are holding up the last playoff spot in the east as a goal. Everyone knows Brandon Jennings is outta there. But New-look Sixers deliver the same disappointing result.

6819431972_f05bde9aa3

So now we got a full blown controversy on our hands. Is the kid ET a bust? Stan Hochman stepped his foot in it Wednesday.  Insinuating on the WIP morning show that there was something we didn’t know about Turner as the reason for his shortcomings. I had heard that ESPN commentator Chris Mullins said that Turner had a conditioning problem. Hold on … what’s going on here?

I recall during some of the lean years that just beating Boston was good enough to make the season for Sixer nation. Kind of like what is was like for Eagles fans before the Andy Reid era. Just beat Dallas. That was all that mattered. And the Dallas hatred still lingers. And so does the Beat Boston Bandwagon. But when the Sixers not just win, but to maul the Celtics … that has us all grinin’ from ear to ear. Now the kid is a keeper. Sixer nation can breath again. So what if the C’s where on the road on a second end of a back to back and played to overtime their last two games. So what?

The second win in a row Friday against the Jazz was almost as good as Wednesday’s game. Ah, but the ET controversy keeps rollin’. What took coach so long? Can ET, Iggy and Jrue really play together? Is Turner a point guard? Can the Sixers get past the fist round? The spin cycle never ends.

Sixers forward Thaddeus Young slams down a dunk in the first half against the Jazz. (Ron Cortes/Staff Photographer)
What I think has been lost in all of this has been the play of Thaddeus Young. Thad has had a spectacular season. He has consistently brought energy every nite. He is shooting the mid range better than ever.  He is humble and the poster child for this hard hat, grind ‘me out team. Resigning Young was a no brainer. I just love to watch him play. Why aren’t we talking about Thad?

Controversy in Sixer nation? As Bob McGinnis would say “Are You Kiddin’ me?”

Big Mac or History?

This week wasn’t so bad here in Sixers Nation. The Detroit game was a big relief. The Sixers routed them 97-68 on the road. The five game losing streak really tested our faith. Waiting until after the All Star break extended the torture. The possibility of another road loss still loomed large despite the Sixers recent dominance over the motor city boys.

The win gave us a moment to exhale. Sure the same weaknesses were there, but the confidence the Sixers could beat a lesser opponent was back.

So I bounced down the WFC for the Thunder game with a lighter step. Few gave the Sixers a chance to win, but we all hoped they could. The west coast conference leader would be a signature win. Some called for the perfect game just to have a chance. But in reality only a normal day at the office or the #NightShift was needed. The loss in the final minutes brought back all the old ghosts of close games past. There were some fans around me that left that game visibly angered that the Sixers did not win. A few vocalized their displeasure towards coach, players or the team in general. I left thinking to myself. THAT WAS ONE HELL OF A BASKETBALL GAME. If you are a fan of basketball it was a great game to watch. That’s all you can really ask for If you’re paying to see it in person.

The Warriors game was the second nite of great crowds at the WFC. Wednesday nite was electric. And the fanfare and hoopla over the anniversary of Wilt Chamberlains 100 point game had the place all a buzz. We were all full of nostalgia as they recanted the Bill Campbell’s radio broadcast before the game started and flashed Wilt stats through out the game to attest to his legacy.

The Warrior did their part by keeping the game completive for a few quarters, but the Sixers 3rd quarter rush gave the crowd a quiet confidence of victory. We were all smiles to start the fourth period. Wilt had only 69 points to start that final period. The Sixers needed 25 points to equal Wilt’s final total. When it got close I noticed a sign held up by a member of the revolution;

WILT = Big Mac

When the Sixers had 97 points the significance of it all was clear to everyone, including the players. Lou Williams was jacking threes just to hit the number squarely. #FreeBigMacs, They surpassed the number. It would have been neat to finish the game with exactly 100 points, but the 105 was good enough. On the ride home someone on the radio posed a question I had not considered; “Do you keep the ticket as a souvenir or do you cash it in for a Big Mac?”.  Oh you gotta keep the ticket my friend says. I agreed, but the next day I pondered it again.

Big Mac or History?

Sorry dog. I already have a 2x2 inch piece of the floor from the game. I was hungry and that Big Mac was good.

Sit Back, Relax and Enjoy the Ride

My flight has been delayed several hours. It’s late. The airport is so quiet I can hear my foot steps tapping the floor as I search for the rental counter. The young lady behind it looked both happy and relieved to see me. I am the last rental of the evening. Then she informs me ”I’m sorry sir but the car you order in not available. Do you mind if we upgrade your vehicle?”  I accept the kind offer without a thought. I don’t  bother to ask what make of car it is.

I walk out to the slot number on the keys (E-6) and there it was. A brand spankin’ new 2012 Cadillac Escalade. It was Silver with Ebony leather trim. This is not so bad I’m thinking. I step in and turn the keys. A banging sound system comes to life and I roll it off the lot. At first there was a lot going on. It was so big but it was fast. You could tell how fly it looked because of the way others where looking at you. Then I started to get used to. Yeah, it’s was nice. I had 100 miles ahead of me. No reason to worry about how the journey would end. “Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride”.

Yes, that was a dream but it aptly describes my “76ers” experience this season.

It started on on a dim note. The NBA lock-out. The normal start of the season came and went. Before you know it Christmas was coming! But then it was all over and the hustle began to start playin’ ball by the end of the year. There were things to do. Training camp, sign Thaddeus Young, get the rookies sign. etc.

After pre-season games against the Wizards,  I don’t know what to expect. Like walkin’ to slot number E-6 without knowing what awaits. Was it a caddy or Yugo? Were they that good or where the Wizards that bad?  By the time the Sixers return from the 1st road trip I’m thinking maybe we got a winner here? After a few blow-out wins in January, I thinking we really got something here. Like that bangin stero that started up after I turned the key.

I started to become accustom to the winning. I know the Sixers are better than the pundits are giving them credit for. Yeah, it feels good behind the wheel. The Sixers beat a few winning teams. Yeah, that’s right … others begin to notice the Sixers. This is a nice feeling.

Don’t talk to me about superstars. I don’t care if we can’t beat Miami or Orlando. I don’t care if you don’t think a team like this can win a championship. What? Worry about Boston or New York catching us. Please, stop the noise! The Sixers are a damn good team. Too good to not make the play-off. Probably good enough to win the Atlantic division. I have 100 miles of basketball joy ahead. I’m not gonna trip about anything they say. I’m no going to worry about the journey’s end. I’m gonna …

Sit back, Relax, and enjoy the ride.

You should do the same.

Caution: Speed Bump Ahead

Today the MLK Day game is back in Philly. This is a great game to take the kids to. The Sixers do a good job of paying homage to Dr. King and the matinee start time (2PM) means the kids can stay awake to see the game.

But over the years I found this 2 o’clock start to a bit of a speed bump for teams. The shooting at the start will be off. Often for both teams. Some teams shake off the slow start (A last second jumper from Dirk Nowitzki comes to mind). Other teams never adjust and get pasted.

It adds another wrinkle to the schedule in this wacky season.  There was no practice for the Sixers yesterday after a 2nd command performance over the Wizards Saturday nite. So you really have no idea what’s gonna happen here. I understand Andrew Bogut is expected to play. So the Sixers will have their hands full.

You will see more obstacles  ahead this week when you peek at the schedule. The Nuggets are in town Wednesday and the Hawks on Friday. Both winning teams. The Sixers match up well to them, but it’s not a given the Sixers will win. And then they Sixers travel to Miami on Saturday to end the week with back to back games.

So is this the week the Sixers don’t finish with a winning record? I don’t think so. But I can’t tell you for sure how that’s gonna happen. That’s all the more reason to watch. Heck, come on out to a game. This team deserves better attendance.

Sixers–Wizards, Blow-out, Rinse, Repeat

I’m happy to see my Sixers get back in the win column again. I don’t care how bad the Wizards are. At some point you have to give the Sixers credit for not just beating a bad team but dominating a bad team. And the Sixers dominated a bad Wizards team.

Jodie Meeks celebrates after scoring three of his season-high 26-points. (AP)

"If everybody's going to be selfish, it doesn't matter what the lineup is," guard John Wall said. "When you're a losing team, guys don't want to hang around with each other. Win a few games and we'll be OK."

I can’t image how hard it is to be a Wizards fan. Everybody knows what’s going on and they are hapless to change it. Wall’s attitude that winning mends all fences is sound, but I don’t see how that’s gonna happen. As Malik Rose said last nite, They have a bunch of young players and players on the last year or 2 of their contracts. All they are worried about was getting their points.

The Sixers and Wizards are polar opposites.

Like other fans out there, I want to see how the Sixers match up with some of the better teams. At this point in their maturation they need to learn how to adjust when teams exploit their weaknesses. We know they have a hard time with long teams. The Sixers are overmatch on the boards and get beat up in the post. They can’t get better at it without more experience.

But, as I said earlier, the Sixers should get extra credit for blowing out a bad team in a home and home tilt. So tonite …

Rinse, Repeat, blow-out

Exhausted after Sixers Home Opener

Yes, exhausted. I can’t remember such an exciting game. The center was electric.

The only down side of the whole evening was getting stuck in traffic. Phantoms/Bears Hockey @citizens bank park I was told. But not told soon enough to avoid the traffic. I missed the opening. It sounded like it ran kinda long. Somebody tell me what happened?

That’s all I got. I don’t know if I can handle these back to back games. I have a friend covering the Raptors game tonight.  Go Sixers.

Oh and

Jodie Meeks!

Sixers storm back in the 4th to sting the Hornets 101-93

Now that the Sixers have shown you then can match up to a team like Portland.
Now that the Sixers have shown you that they can win on the road.
Now that you have seen the Sixers beat a team they where supposed to beat on the road.
Now that the Sixers have shown how they respond to a tuff loss.
Now that the Sixers have shown you they can handle the lead in a blow-out
Now that the Sixers have shown you how they respond to back-to back games.
Now that you have seen the Sixers can take care of the ball.
Now that you see the Sixers are really serious about their team defense.
Now that you have seen them win when lead in scoring  by Williams, Igoudala, Holiday or even Hawes.
Now that you have seen the Sixers are playing as good as or better than the team that finished last season.
Now that you see the Sixers can come storming back to win in the 4th.
Now that the Sixers have shown they could reach above .500 earlier in a season that anyone can remember.

…. Any Questions?

…… Can you believe this?

Happy New Year Sixers Faithful

I had a great time on new years eve. I love watching a Sixers game before the ball drops.  And watching the Sixers drop the hammer of the Warriors just made my nite (107-79). My friend Ricky was lamenting the let down in the Utah game. Claiming they looked more like the old Sixers of the Eddie Jordon era than the Sixers team at then end of last season. Hey Ricky, they can’t win then all. The Sixers don’t get blown out often so that is what a loss is going to look like. And that’s what I think the season is going to look like. You can’t say the Sixers were lucky ‘cause Warriors stand-out start, Monta Ellis was out. That’s going to happen over and over this season. Stars will miss games and the rest of the team will have to suck it up. Utah did just that Friday nite. You gotta have some faith this season.

Early in the game, Sixers sideline reporter Meredith Marakovits showed a quote by new Warriors head coach Mark Jackson about placing a premium on defense over offense. And pointed to the seasons fast start as evidence of the new Warriors. The way the game started (Sixers 7 Warriors 20) you might have believed that quote about defense.

The Sixers starters could not make a shot and Stephan Curry was making them look really bad on the pick and roll. The Super Subs (Williams, Young, and Turner) came in and changed the tone of the game. The Sixers closed the gap by the end of the 1st period and forged a 7 point lead at the half. It might have been a bigger lead if the Sixers could make free throws. Contrary to Malik Rose’s opinion, I am not so sure that bad free throw shooting can’t be contagious.

But after the jump the Sixers made all of the Warriors talk about defense disappear. They started the 3rd period with a 13-1 run and the rout was on. Other than shooting better from the 3 point line than the foul line there was little to argue with about the Sixers performance. They corrected their defense against Curry and the 3 point shooting was outrageous.

You could see the frustration on Coach Jackson face. He’s going to find things are a lot harder than it looks from the broadcast booth.

Keep the faith Sixers fans.

76ers Stumble in Utah 99-102

Well I guess our wishes for the Sixers go above .500 was not to be.  I watched this one Tivo delayed. I probable started mid way thru the 3rd period. I resists skipping ahead. It looked like the Sixers had the game in hand.

I had a feeling this was going to be a loss when Iggy hits a 3 pointer, get’s fouled but failed to make the free throw. Then he comes down and misses 2 free throws on an ensuing possession … ugh!  No comeback tonite. No matter how much the Jazz wanted to give it away.

The good thing about the NBA and this expedited season is that you don’t have a lot of time to sit and ponder a loss. There’s another game tonite. The Sixers will be in Oakland to face the former broadcaster now coach Mark Jackson and his Golden State Warriors

Hmmm .. it looks like the Warriors new front office has there hands full with “Golden State Warriors Face Multiple Sexual Harassment Charges, According To Report”.

Sixers Rock in the Valley of the Suns

Thank goodness the first win of the season was nothing like last year's. This 76ers pop their cherry in only their second game with a romping 103-83 win over the Phoenix Suns. They even their record at 1-1. That's the kind of game I was looking for. Not only did they beat a team the should be able to beat, but the did so in convincing fashion.Phoenix Suns' Steve Nash, left, looks to pass around Philadelphia 76ers' Jrue Holiday (11) during the first quarter of an NBA basketball game on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in Phoenix. (AP Photo/Matt York)

The game started out just as one would hope.  (1) Iggy came out like a man on fire. He was all over the floor ... dropping 3's, grabbing rebounds and playing in your face defense. He finished the game with 4 of the Sixers 11 steals. (2) the Sixers took better care of the ball (only 3 turns at halftime) and (3) they played great team defense. Granted the Suns are Steve Nash & JBOD (just a bunch of dudes), but the Sixers did what they had to. Which was hound Nash, not collapse too much when he penetrated, rebound the ball and get out on the break.

They were up by 7 in the 1st period and 14 and the mid point. Then the 2nd half is was like WOW!

Gameflow001

As the game tracker shows it took the Suns almost 6 minutes to score a basket. The Sixers scored 19 point during the stretch. At the point the game was essentially over.  The route was on.

Garbage time!

Time to rest some starters and give the second team some playing time.  The rookie Vucevic got some extended playing time. He looks like a keeper (6 pts, 6 rebs, 2 dimes). You can tell the boy’s got skills. It would be nice to see him become more aggressive. But you have to like what you see.

But the primary reason to sit starters when the game is out of reach is you don’t want to see anyone get hurt.  My heart skipped a beat when Jrue went down on an awkward play where he was stuffed by two Sun defenders. I was just thinking to myself “What he doing in the game?”  Coach Collins admitted to the this foolishness in the post game press conference. But Jrue was ok. No harm no foul I guess.

ROFL

Spencer Hawes has been playing well this season. But I could have died laughing when he batted a pass away from his opponent and proceeded to rumble down  towards the basket to score. I’m thinking to my self “Pass it” “Pass it” . I did not want to see him get embarrassed.  But he scored the basket. That just the kind of nite it was.

Sixers drop 1st game in Portland

Common sense tells me that the Sixers can’t win them all. Logic tells me that they would probably not win Monday nite against the Blazers. But I’d be lying if you told I didn’t expect them to pull out the game. Because the team I have come to love does not give up. Rarely do they fold like a cheap tent. Instead they just keep plugging away and something good happens.

Well I guess something good did happen, but it was just short of a win. The barrage of 3 pointers in the fourth when down by 15 was really good. But They just dug too much of a whole fueled by 20 turnovers. Jrue Holiday committed 6 turnovers! Much to many for your floor leader. He just did not seem himself. I kept waiting for him to take charge in the 2nd half. But it never came. Not what I was expecting from him either.

But I’m  going to keep a positive attitude. They made the game completive. Let see about a win in Phoenix.

Sixers finish Preseason with a sloppy win

It was a stark contrast to the previous tilt with the Wizards, but the Sixers did find a way to win (101-94). You had to know the Wizards would give more effort this time around after getting spanked last Friday.

Doug Collins said it best, the Sixers played poor defense, gave up too many offensive rebounds and had too many turnovers. You’re not going to win may games that way and everyone knows it. But is was a good thing in this regard, the humbling experience will help them focus. You’re not playing a team as dreadful as the Wizards every nite.

The other good you can take from the game was the play of Jrue Holiday. In a nutshell the win was all Jrue. He scored 15 points in the 4th period and limited the number of turn-overs. I think you are looking at the future. Holiday should be the Sixers 20 & 10 guy this year (Points & Assists). He is on the verge of superstardom.

Ok, preseason’s over. Let’s get ready to lace ‘em up for real.

Is this the 76ers or the Nets?

Kate Fagan leaked last nite that the Comcast brain trust will be hiring former Nets president Rod Thorn. Stripping Ed Stefanski of his President title as President and general manager. The party line is that Thorn and Stefanski worked well together in New Jersey. Indeed they managed to get the Nets to back to back NBA finals.

What’s goes unsaid is that Stefanski was over matched for the job, but the Comcast crew liked him enuff not to just fire him. Conventional wisdom would say that Stefanski should have been shown the door along with his hand picked head coach after last season’s collapse. The hiring of Thorn is a sign that the organization isn’t tone deaf. He (Thorn) is a basketball lifer. He knows the business side of the sport. It can only help the organization to have more basketball people in the ranks.

But I have to wonder, are we becoming the New Jersey, Nets? Eddie Jordon, Stefanski, and now Thorn, all former Nets. Billy King reviled in Philly circles, is now the President and General manager in New Jersey. One could easily foresee the two organizations swapping personnel.

Do we really want to emulate the Nets?

Now that's more like it

I'd swear it is something about games on Friday nites. The Sixers games most worth watching are on Friday nites. I’m sure the buzz of a Friday crowd has something to do with it. Perhaps the fact that the better teams tend to be scheduled on Friday (That's just good marketing). But whatever it is the Sixers should bottle it and sprinkle it on their food before every game.
Philadelphia 76ers' Andre Iguodala, left, goes up for a shot as Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James defends in the second half of an NBA basketball game, Friday, March 12, 2010, in Philadelphia. Cleveland won 100-95. (AP Photo/Matt Slocum)
Andre Igoudala was playing with a chip on his shoulder. Not to be out done by the LeBron James, the obvious object of the crowds interest (who could blame 'em). The 1st quarter was a high flyin' slam fest. Iggy and LeBron were throwing down some sick dunks. Iguodala keep the Sixers in the game with 16 1st period points. I kept waiting for the inevitable drop-off in the Sixers play. But E.B. was performing at a high level also. You couldn't be happy with the defense with the Cavs scoring 61 by half time. But they were only down 6.

I'm thinking "Here we go", after the Cavs got the early jump in the 3rd. But the Sixers righted the ship. Iguodala came alive again. He was determine to put his stamp on the game. James seemed to be rusty to me. He deferred a lot to his teammates. Who did not respond. Allowing the Sixers to close the gap and lead the game by 1 to end the 3 period.

If Iggy played that kind of game every nite (which is to say "selfish") his contract would not be such a question mark. Perhaps the Sixers could have won had he been "more" selfish at the end of the game. Instead they struggled to score in the 4th and watched their hopes fall short with a errant pass from the rookie, Jrue Holiday. Holiday never should have been in that position.

Still it was a great game to watch. lotsa of fireworks, competitive and the Sixers lost.

Sixers tank one versus the Bobcats

“I gotcha now dog, this tanking thing is easy!”

I can’t believe I went to that game last nite. It was worst than the nite before. It’s hard to believe so many player have checked out already.  Jason Smith and Rodney Carney seem to be the only guys who realize they all have to play for a spot next year. You don;t care about E.J., but you never know who’s going to follow.

Sixers drop another to the Pacers

Well all those tanker fans should be happy with this one. The Sixers showed no effort to win this game. They drop a road game to the Pacers 107-96, who played without their 23 points per game All Star Danny Granger. Granger was out serving a 1 game suspension for a fight on their recent west coast road trip.

If you suffered thru the game as I did, you may never see a more pathetic display of defense. Williams was just a spectator on the floor. Iggy disappeared from the game. It was like a layup line for the Pacers. It is disingenuous for the Sixers media to play this game up as one in which the Pacers stepped up. How hard is it to make a frickin’ layup!

Dontay Jones torches them for 25 (11 PPG average) …. Brandon Rush hits for 24 (8 PPG average) …. you’ve gotta be kidding me!
