The championship comes just two years removed from the retirement of the legend John Chaney. Many expected it to take a number of years before Fran would bring winning basketball to Temple. Chaney casts a huge shadow and despite his coaching record Fran was considered a question mark becuase of the low stature of the Ivy league competition he faced for most of his career. The Owls looked like they were going nowhere this season. But Fran turned it around and now they are going to the dance.

The Temple Owls are going to the dance
Congratulations to Fran Dunphy and the Temple Owls. Temple overcame a second half deficit to beat St. Joe's in Atlantic City for the Atlantic 10 championship (Temple 69, St. Joe's 64).
