Curtain call for the 76ers

Bobcats Top 76ers for Fourth Straight Win.

The Sixers finish the season losing 3 out of 4. The season that began as the coronation of the Mo Cheeks era ended with resounding thud. A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing ... Billy King is not so different than William Shakespeare's Macbeth .... with his plans falling apart at his feet ... the faithful calling for his head.

We all feel the hollowness of Billy's charge.

Sixers keep pace with blow-out of the Nets

76ers 116 Nets 96 Of course the nay sayers looked at this game last week and said 'No Way' could the Sixers win. It was counted as another reason we could not make the playoffs. But games in April are seldom what the appear on paper. Philly clearly had more energy than the Nets, who played to standings instead of the schedule. When you have a lock on your play-off spot and played the nite before. The standings say you don't give much effort.

So what do think the effort will be like in Miami on Friday? Not so fast. Think about what happened to Lebron James last nite ... Mr. Riley.

Are the Sixers Better without Webber?

Help me with the math here! Can minus 20.3 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 3.5 APG equal more wins for the Sixers? As an eye witness to the last two Sixers games, I have to consider it. There is no question Webber is not as athletic as he used to be. His shot is so flat it's a wonder it ever gets over the rim. He took the majority of shots in the 3rd period of Friday's loss and only converted on two free throws. Fatigue is clearly a factor.


I'm not ready to give up on C.Webb totally. He still has more BB IQ than some of the younger players. And the reality is that he gets paid a lot of money. So he is gonna play (when he's healthy). But I like the twin towers look of Sammy D and Hunter. I think they need more PT than Webber. Could that be Mo's magic formula?

Sad commentary on the Sixers

It was just last Friday night that AI said, "We're not eliminated till we're eliminated?"
That wasn't very inspirational after the collapse I watched unfold in front of my eyes Friday nite. Then I had to wipe my eyes twice when I saw the Sixers/Bulls score at the end of the 3rd period Saturday. The Bulls had still not crested 50 points! The Sixers win a laugher.

How sad can you get? How sad has the NBA gotten? To say that this team is a playoff contender with a losing record. But its not just the 76ers. Four games separate the Sixers, Bulls, Pacers and Bucks (4). All teams with losing records.

Why fighting for berth in playoffs still matters


| David Aldridge | Why fighting for berth in playoffs still matters - David has jogged my memory as to why I still like to see the 76ers win. Why I have had this sick feeling in my belly the last two days as the Sixers get absolutely trashed by the Cavs and out-run by the Bulls. I could not watch after the Cavs 2nd period surge. I could not peek at the Bulls game, least I be disappointed. Why does it still matter to me?

Because losing is for losers! The mentality that says "Go for the ping pong balls!" is whacked. In sports, nothing good comes from losing. There is no savior in the NBA lottery draft. There hasn't been a savior there for ages. Go ahead ... name 'em.

Losing is like crack. Once you start it's hard to stop. You come to rely on it. It's all your subconscious thinks about. Young players come to know nothing else. They never know what winning is. They never learn how to achieve it.

Go ahead and laugh at me. I am just happy I'm not one you Phillies fans ... hoping against hope. Happy with ... we were close this year ... almost ... maybe next year. The Sixers are still the last Philly major pro sports team to win it all aren't they?

AI passes IsiahThomas on All-time scoring list in a blow-out vs Knicks

AI passes Isiah Thomas on NBA All-time scoring list(41) - Chalk up another one for AI. His 32 points Sunday against the Knicks lifts his career scoring total past the Knicks GM Isiah Thomas and the former Nat/76er All-Star Chet the Jet Walker.

I know everyone thinks we should be losing these games, but I like being on the upside of an old fashioned blow-out. Even if it is just the Knicks. Iverson scored his 32 points in only 3 quarters. Mo sat all but one starter (Iggy) to start the 4th period and the lead increased. Iggy sat half way thru the period and the blow-out was official. Steve Franchise got most of his 18 points when the game was over ... Sweet Lou Williams scored 4 points in 3 minutes of play.

This was a no brainer. Say what you will about the round mound of rebound, but Sir Charles was an amazing player to watch. You had to see him in person to really appreciate him. I could not believe someone that WIDE could do the things I saw him do. His quickness ... His rim rattling dunks ... Never mind that he never won a ring. The fact that he went to the finals a year after being traded is an indictment of Sixers management at the time.

Fellow inductee Dominique "The Human Highlight Film" Wilkins is another deserving Hall of Famer, like Barkley, without a ring. You could not believe the dunks he jacked up in the flow of a game. Both these guys were worth the price of admission.

Iverson and Webber beat the Knicks at the Garden

Philadelphia at New York Boxscore, 03/31/2006 A glance at the box score in this one tells you alot about the game. To see the Sixers win should be no surprise. To see the Knicks so close on the scoreboard should be. The Knicks are 2 and 8 in thier last 10 games. But perhaps there's nothing the Sixers can do to surprise you anymore. Here's the telling stat that shows how dysfunctional this team is; Iverson and Webber combine for 81 points! That's 70% of the total team points scored. Okay, 81/117 is actually 69 percent, but you get the picture don't you?

But hey the Sixers won, right. They nudge onward ahead of da Bulls in a race for the 8th spot in the eastern conference. It reminds me a little of the race between the tortoise and the .... ah turtle.
