Slumping Sixers fall to Pistons, lose 10th in 12

The game was quite close for a time, but never in doubt. Wow, Detroit has such a solid team! They haven't had any major injuries this year. They have started the same team throughout this season. Even a guy named flip could coach this team and win.

On the flip side, no-one could coach the Sixers and expect to win. They are the antithesis of the Pistons. Mo can only wonder where it will end. My friends have asked me if I am ready to start rooting for a lottery pick. To hope the Sixers fall out of the 8th play-off spot. It doesn't look like it makes much difference to Mo ... maybe it doesn't.

Allen Iverson’s Injuries may be the last straw for Sixers' Season

AI's injuries are the stuff of legend. Giving him the moniker of the best 'pound for pound' players in the NBA, 'EVER'! It has never been a question of whether Allen will get injured during the season. It's only a question of when. Just as likely, the barometer of the Sixers season is measured on how well his teammates play when he is out of the lineup. AI's sprained ankle, in a freak accident in Memphis (why do those camera guys need to sit so close to the edge, isn't that why they have those big lenses), could not have come at a worse time. With the Sixers struggling to hold on to a playoff berth. Losers of the last 6 out of 7 games. That elusive .500 mark they have been bobbing around all season may be out of reach.

Come on Philly sports fans. What do you think? Is the Inky sports page one of the best? The writers seem to applaud our passion as much as they deride us for our naivete. What 'bout the brass Stephen A. Smith? The smooth dressing scribe turn TV star. Is he hip to the sports scene or just hype? I have commented in the past that Stephen A has phoned it in at times.

Is David Aldridge really the NBA lapdog he appears to be. I don't think anyone questions the clear headed voice of Don McKee. But what about Phil Sheridan? Since Bill Lyons' departure has the sports page been insightful ... provocative ... or are they simply repeating the message of the day being floating into the ether on the zillon outlets for sports media today?

From my view, there is a bit of 'me too' journalism from the Inquirer. But I do a bit of traveling for my living and I read the sports section. For my money, the Inky is one of the best. Maybe we take that for granted?

Maybe Give Sweet Lou a shot

The drop off of steady play at guard position has been remarkable since Kevin Ollie's injury. Matt Barnes probably played the most minutes every this season in last Thursday's debacle versus the Nuggets. Barnes was pressed into service after Johnnie Salmons began to turn the ball over. So I ask you Mo Cheeks "Maybe give Sweet Lou a shot". Louis Williams didn't embarrass himself when he got minutes during AI's injury. How bad can he be?

Anthony, Camby Lead Late Rally for Nuggets If I was not at the game I would not have believed it. The Sixers have become magicians. How quickly can you make a 7 point lead starting the 4th quarter disappear? Try giving up 13 straight points to start the period. It was amazing they where in the game at all. The shooting percentage was terrible (38% from the floor, 18% from 3 point the line, 61% from the charity stripe). They looked like a tired team that had played the nite before. The Sixers scored only fourteen points in the 4th. 14!

This is the 3rd game in a row they have lost at the end. Late in the game. Think of where we would be if they won just 2 of 3? As Yogi Berra would say it getting late early.

Sixers drop another game in the final minutes to the Celts

The blogshpere was eerily quite this AM after the Sixers dropped a second straight game in the final minutes. I saw a number of stories about how incredible Paul Peirce is, about his scoring 30+ in seven straight games and his recent exploits in the waning minutes of the game.

Lets get real. The Celtics stink! Pierce is a one man band. Without Delonte West (injured) they have nothing at the point guard position and the Sixers exploited it. The turnovers were almost predictable and their interior defense is worse (yes worse) than the Sixers'. They haven't got a shot at making the playoffs.

The Celtics won this game because the Sixers failed to execute down the stretch. A continuing problem. They where up by 5 with a minute to go. You don't win games in those circumstances, the other team loses it. The turning point in the game was when Kevin Ollie was injured (sad but true). Johnnie Salmons had to spend more time on the floor and his inconsistancy cost the Sixers.

Jackson's Late Layup Lifts Pacers Over 76ers - It has taken a few day for me to even think about this game. Did the PACERS win this one or did the Sixers lose it. I don't know how Indiana has been winning lately with out Jermaine O'Neill, but I am not overly impressed. His standin served up an intriguing performance. But the Sixers were lethargic. Could it have been the early wake-up call for a 1PM game?

Iverson leads Sixers past Wizards, but what's up with those tights?

Iverson leads Sixers past Wizards 119-113. Wow, what a game. Where do you begin. When the Sixers reached the century mark there was almost 6 minutes left in the game. With the way the Wizards where slicing up the 76ers 'D', I thought to myself "They're gonna have to score 120 to win this one". 119 points was enough.

You could talk about AI's brilliant game (47 points and 12 assists). His second game with 40 or more points and 10 or more assists! For you triva buffs, that's a rare feat (only 7 other have done so).

You could talk about C.Webb's 30 points. It was apparent how other players performed better when he was on the floor. How about the play to Webber in the waining moments of the game. AI was the decoy. The Wizards sent 3 players at 'em. AI had 47, but Webber was a major factor in the game.

You could talk about Allen's maturity in the light of the olympic trials saga. The mass media can't get enough of that. It has become cliche, but clueless commentators like Bill Walton can't think of anything else to say.

The things I remember the most about the game was those tights! Whazzup wit dat? At first glance I thought he had borrowed Kyle Korver's socks. Is this the shape of things to come?

Iverson, Sixers down Rockets, 106-101 We may not have taken this one if AI didn't have the flu. He has a knack of dropping 40 when he's sick. Korver came thru as the 3rd bananna, but bubba chuck had to take charge in the final minutes. With the Nets losing, this was a big win.

You know in a strange way, being in the a sad sack division like the Atlantic is a bad thing. King can be satisfied with just getting better than the Nets, Knicks, Celts and Raptors. That's not setting the bar too high. Hey, Billy ... dont we need to beat somebody to make it to the finals?
